01 — The story

Why we call it Rekeyed

It starts with computers, ends with people, and it’s the whole reason this show exists.

01
The system

Every system runs on a key

Inside every computer, every phone and every account, a key decides what you can open, what you can read and what you can change.

Whoever holds the key holds the controls.

02
The rekey

Good systems change their keys

The best security teams don’t wait for something to break. They change their keys on purpose, because a key that’s been in use for years has been copied, outgrown or quietly worn out.

They don’t rebuild the machine. They rekey it. Same system. The old key stops working. A new key arrives with a whole new set of controls.

03
The human

We run on keys too

Most of the keys we live by were cut for us: by our parents, our schools, our first job, our first big failure. They decide what we think is possible, what we try and what we never question.

They worked once. Some still do. Others quietly lock more doors than they open, and most of us never think to change them.

they worked once.

04
The lock

Same door. New key.

When a locksmith rekeys a lock, nothing about the door changes. The pins inside do. The old key is rendered useless, and a new one turns.

You don’t need a new life. You need a new key for the one you have.

the door stays.

05
The show

So we go find new keys

Every episode, Richard sits down with someone from a different walk of life: a founder, an operator, a student of the mind, a teacher of the spirit, someone simply living a life worth hearing about.

Each of them holds a key. Not the right key. Their key. They show you how it works and what it opened for them. You try it in your own locks, keep what opens something, and leave the rest.

you decide what it opens.

02 — Why we do this

Decode the world with a new key

Mission

Hand out new keys

Bring people honest, fresh perspectives from everyday walks of life, and encourage independent thinking. We put different views side by side so you can weigh them, help each other think them through, and come to your own conclusions. The best decision is the one you reach yourself.

Vision

Update on purpose

A world where people line up with ideas, not sides. Where new information is taken at face value and judged on its merits, not on who said it. Where we update what we believe the way we update our software: when something better comes along, by choice, never by force.

What we believe

No master key

  • There is no master key for everything.
  • Every perspective depends on where you stand.
  • Everyone holds a key to something.
  • Changing your mind is a skill, not a weakness.
  • You decide what your keys open.

The guest

Merlin Obrecht

Dean of Academic Affairs, NCI University

Merlin grew up off-grid in rural Quebec: chopping firewood, working outdoors and running packs of sled dogs. That life trained his eye for people long before he had words for it. Years later he found behavioural science, and it gave those instincts a framework.

He went from roofer to one of the most trusted instructors at NCI University, founded by Chase Hughes. Today he holds every certification NCI offers, including Red Belt and NCI-4 Author, is the only person Chase has authorised to teach NCI live events, and has trained thousands of people across North America and Europe.

His key: understanding people, communicating with clarity, and developing those around you.

“A roofer started studying my material several years ago and advanced so quickly in both skill and academics that he became one of our most reliable instructors.”

Chase Hughes, founder, NCI University

How we talk

Talk like the
truth matters

Principle one

Question the lock

We test every assumption, our own first. Curious, never cynical.

Principle two

Say it straight

Short sentences, plain words. If it’s true, we can say it simply.

Principle three

Leave the door open

We hand you the key. We never lecture you through the door.

You’ll hear
  • “Here’s what changed my mind.”
  • “Let’s test that.”
  • “I was wrong about this.”
You won’t hear
  • “The truth they don’t want you to know.”
  • “Wake up, people.”
  • “Secret knowledge, revealed.”

A Richard Avileli show

Talks like someone who has changed their own mind and is glad they did.

Richard sits down with people from every walk of life: founders and operators, students of the mind, teachers of the spirit, and people simply living a life worth hearing about.

Each one brings a key. He asks how it works, where it came from and what it opened for them. What you open with it is yours to decide.
